The school curriculum comprises all learning and other experiences that each school plans for its children. The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and National Curriculum are just one element in the education of every child. There is time and space in the school day and in each week, term and year to range beyond the National Curriculum specifications.
The EYFS and National Curriculum provide schools with a framework of what to teach so that children across schools acquire the same basic knowledge and understanding in a range of subjects. They cover what areas of learning or subject areas are taught and the standards that children should reach in each area.
The EYFS and National Curriculum provide an outline of core knowledge around which teachers can develop exciting and stimulating lessons to promote the development of children’s knowledge, understanding and skills as part of the wider school curriculum.
At St Peter’s all children receive a broad, balanced curriculum which promotes of spiritual, cultural, mental and physical development.
The curriculum is carefully planned so that there is full coverage of all aspects of the EYFS and National Curriculum as well Religious Education and PSHE and that there is planned progression in all curriculum areas.
Our curriculum is designed to ensure that children develop the skills they need to grow into positive, responsible people, who can work and co-operate with others while developing knowledge and skills, so that they can achieve and live fulfilled lives.
Subjects may be taught individually, however when relevant, cross curricular links are made to enhance the teaching and inspire the children to learn. For effective teaching and learning a wide variety of teaching styles is essential. This may be a whole class approach, independent learning or working collaboratively in small groups organised according to appropriate criteria.
